Bathroom Remodeling and Addition
Luxury Homes Magazine: “Glickman is the Wizard of Inner Space.”
Gazette Newspaper; Real Estate: “Glickman Design Build recently netted two prizes…an addition to a Potomac home and a luxury bathroom project in Reston, VA…”
Potomac Almanac: “Glickman also won an award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry for the best bathroom remodeling project in the country, for a project in Virginia.”
Paul and Jill M. longed for a new master bedroom suite. The existing design of the of the home contained a second floor with two awkward rooms. A series of consultations with various remodelers had always rendered the same advice: build an addition to the back of the house. It was an expensive step the Martins were reluctant to take.
The Glickman team had a creative, money saving solution: utilize the existing attic space—the hot, dingy and squat garage attic. Here would be their dream suite, we advised the homeowners. The first task was to lower the floor to the loft of the garage about two feet. This move left a comfortable eight feet of vertical space in the garage, but yielded more than enough headroom for a new 270 square-foot master bathroom above.
Next, the Glickman team knocked out the wall separating an unused bedroom and a small study— which, in turn had abutted the garage attic. A step-down entrance now created a master bedroom/bathroom suite exceeding 614 square-feet. Moreover, the whole process occurred within the confines of the original structure of the house, a substantial money saver compared to a new addition.
Stepping down into the bath from a beveled glass door, the room reveals a mosaic of French Beaumanire soapstone and marble trim tiles, cherry wood vanities, antique verde marble countertops, and custom glass-and-gold shower for two. Recessed and brass lighting echo the room’s brass fixtures.
“Dear Mr. Glickman, we undertook this project with some trepidation since we had heard the usual horror stories from people who had dealt with companies who were undermanned, had underbid a project, or who turned a 3 month project into a 9 month disaster. Not only was the job finished in the time called for, it turned out beautifully. I want to personally commend your team for making our remodeling experience a most rewarding venture. We absolutely love our new master suite and bath…Thanks again.” – Jill M. – Reston, VA
