Sunroom Addition, Deck, Stone Patio – Derwood, MD

Sunroom Addition in DerwoodFrank and Linda had a large, relatively new home in Derwood, MD. They wanted a sunroom off the rear of the family room that was less formal, could house wicker furniture and plants, and could serve as a screened porch during good weather. They also wanted a deck and/or patio to grill, sunbathe, and entertain—and needed a way to navigate around the rear yard from the driveway at first floor level to the finished basement level. All of this needed to be accomplished without blocking the beautiful view out of the back windows.

Glickman proposed a plan: a sunroom with a flat roofline attached to the house below the Palladian window and above the windows and doors below, extra high ceilings to accept new Palladian windows above the lower windows on all three walls of the new sunroom, a creative deck—with built-in planters and an arbor for hanging plants—that wrapped around the sunroom to the driveway, and a staircase on the other side of the deck to allow access to the new brick paver patio. This solution provided the beautiful, spacious, nature-focused living space along with the flow that the homeowners desired.
